What’s included in the CSM certification training course?

The CSM course comes with:

Prerequisites for the CSM certification training

There are no eligibility criteria for attending the Certified ScrumMaster training. This course is more relevant to project team members - project managers, project leads, developers, testers and others. The CSM training is a perfect match for functional managers and executives who are currently working or wish to work in Agile methodologies and process improvement.

You will have to receive a course completion certificate from your trainer to be eligible for Scrum Alliance’s Online CSM Test.


CSM Certification & Exam Details

In order to obtain a CSM certification, one must:

  • Attend a two-day (16 hour) CSM course taught by a Certified Scrum Trainer (CST). On successful completion of the course, you will have to pass the CSM exam
  • The CSM exam consists of multiple choice and true/false questions that need to be answered in 60 minutes. The exam includes all the concepts of Scrum (Scrum elements, scrum meetings, scrum roles, scrum artifacts, and general scrum knowledge)
  • A minimum of 24 of the 35 questions must be answered correctly in order to attain the passing score.
  • Upon completion of this course, you will be eligible for 16 Scrum Education Units (SEUs).
  • After successfully passing the CSM exam, you will have to accept the License Agreement to complete your Scrum Alliance membership profile.

Maintaining your CSM credential

You need to go to the Scrum Alliance portal and renew your credential every two years, obtain 20 SEUs, and pay USD 100 renewal fee to maintain your CSM certification.

We love questions, almost as much as we love providing answers. Here are a few samplings of what we’re typically asked, along with our responses:

Scrum is an agile process framework that breaks down a complex project into smaller stages and reviewing and adapting at each stage. The original term comes from rugby and refers to a player formation the team forwards. As a process framework, Scrum has seen use across a diverse set of industries including defence, automotive, and software development. Some notable organizations include Bank of America, American Express, Adobe Systems, Google, IBM, and Yahoo.

The CSM certification is a widely recognized, foundation level certification from Scrum Alliance, certification holders are usually involved in helping their teams learn and implement Scrum.

The CSM training course can be attended by any professional from any background. There are no prerequisites of prior certificates, educational background or work experience to be eligible for the training.

To clear the CSM Certification Exam you must take a CSM training from a Certified Scrum Trainer (CST). After successful completion of the training (typically 2 days) you are eligible for the Scrum Alliance’s Online ScrumMaster certification Test.

Please note that you cannot take your exam during the training period. Anytime after your 2 day training you are eligible to take the exam.

The process to appear for the online CSM Exam:

  • We submit your registration on the Scrum Alliance website after you successfully complete the training.
  • Normally within a day, you will receive an email with a link to create your login credentials on the Scrum Alliance website.
  • After creating your account you can navigate to the examination section using a link on the dashboard. (If you are already an existing member of Scrum Alliance the CSM test would be available for you)

 

You are eligible for 2 attempts to pass the CSM exam within 90 calendar days from the time you receive the Welcome email from Scrum Alliance. These attempts are at no additional cost.

If you are unable to clear the exam in 2 attempts or you exceded the 90 calendar days you will be charged $25 for each additional attempt.

Scrum Alliance recommends that if you fail the exam three time you must re-register yourself for a CSM course before attempting the fourth time.

The CSM exam comprises of 35 multiple choice questions. You atleast need to get 24 right out of the 35 questions.

After you successfully clear the exam, you will be asked to accept a license agreement.

The official designation of Certified Scrum Master® (CSM) from Scrum Alliance along with a 2 year membership will be received.

The exam consists of 35 multiple choice questions and to pass the certified scrum master exam, you need to write 24 or more correct answers. You can take up the exam only after the completion of two days training. The test takes about an hour to get completed. You can take breaks, pause and restart the test as many times as needed. You can also skip questions or bookmark them for later review. Go back option is always there throughout the test. You can review bookmarked questions at the end of the test and submit your answers for scoring. After clicking submit button, a warning message may appear in case you have left any question unanswered. Your score will immediately appear on your computer screen.

In the event that one fails to pass the CSM exam in one go, you may take it anytime within 60 days following your CSM course. You can even retake the exam immediately if you wish. However, if you fail to clear the exam in second attempt too, you will be required to pay an exam fee of $25 to Scrum Alliance. Scrum Alliance recommends that it is better to re-enroll in the CSM course, if one has failed thrice in the exam.

You will receive an email containing the log in information from Scrum Alliance within five days of taking up the course. You can log in to the Scrum Alliance website and complete a free, non- graded online evaluation. Once you have submitted this online evaluation and agreed to the terms and conditions, you will be able to download and take a print out of your certificate directly from the Scrum Alliance website. You will then need to complete your Scrum Alliance membership profile after signing the license agreement.
